For those doing the box hair color (like me) for various reasons, (covering gray is my primary reason), I have some tips through my many trials and errors.
Well the brand I use is L'Oreal. My most recent mistakes with this brand recently, was that I started using the Excellence Line. Every time I use the excellence line, it colors my hair way darker than what the box shows it is supposed to be. That line is touted as a great line for covering grays, (my primary reason) but I really believe it works best for those who are OVER 50% gray! As we know, gray is actually white hair, and when coloring white hair, it is going to come out much LIGHTER than the color shown. I think that is why people with no-minimal gray hair like me, find that it colors the hair extremely darker. Thus I'll stick with the Preference line!
Another tip I have, is that when darkening your hair from light blonde shades, you want to be very careful about what shade you choose.
